Comparing the Performance of Organic Solvent Nanofiltration Membranes in Non‐Polar Solvents

چکیده
Organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN) is gradually expanding from academic research to industrial implementation. The need for membranes with low and sharp molecular weight cutoffs that are able operate under aggressive OSN conditions increasing. However, the lack of comparable uniform performance data frustrates screening membrane selection processes. Here, a collaboration presented between several partners analyzing separation 10 different using three model process mixtures. Membrane materials range classic polymeric thin film composites (TFCs) hybrid ceramic types. solutions were chosen mimic cases relevant today's use: relatively molar mass solutes (330–550 Da) in n-heptane, toluene, anisole.

Nanopapers for organic solvent nanofiltration.
Would it not be nice to have an organic solvent nanofiltration membrane made from renewable resources that can be manufactured as simply as producing paper? Here the production of nanofiltration membranes made from nanocellulose by applying a papermaking process is demonstrated. Manufacture of the nanopapers was enabled by inducing flocculation of nanofibrils upon addition of trivalent ions.

A nanofiltration method has been developed in a microfluidic format for the continuous-flow pressure-driven purification of half-generation poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers, a family of macromolecules characterized by highly branching structures radiating from a central core, without additional solvents or buffers. An organic solvent resistant nanofiltration membrane, STARMEM 122, has been f...

While the important role of electrostatic interactions in aqueous colloidal suspensions is widely known and reasonably well-understood, their relevance to nonpolar suspensions remains mysterious. We measure the interaction potentials of colloidal particles in a nonpolar solvent with reverse micelles. We find surprisingly strong electrostatic interactions characterized by surface potentials, |ez...
